Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has detest people referring to the DC Extended Universe film as a “woman’s movie.” The film has earned over $800 million worldwide in ticket sales, beating records in female directed film history.
Variety reported that Jenkins made clear that Wonder Woman is not necessarily a woman movie because the character was a woman, but because of the plot and the compelling character name and movie title. Jenkins affirmed that Wonder Woman was just a story about a “hero” who happened to be a woman. She said:
“A movie about a woman doesn’t make it a ‘woman’ movie. Wonder Woman was about being a hero.”
“It’s a conversation that has to be had. It’s less about observing diversity than it is about acknowledging that we are a very diverse world.”
